Ascension is a national insurance broker providing a broad array of innovative P&C, risk management, and employee benefits to middle market companies. CEO and President, Len Kline, has over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry and has spent the last five years consolidating middle-market agencies.
Through strategic acquisitions of high quality insurance agencies, Ascension anticipates its revenues will exceed $200 million within five years. Presently, the Company operates 3 agencies with approximately 300 employees in Missouri, California, Florida and Georgia.
The Position
The Sales & Marketing Director will report to the CEO who is resident in the Kansas City corporate office. The ability to work out of the Kansas City corporate office would be desirable. The Director will work closely with the senior leadership team to identify, develop, evaluate and execute the Company’s internal growth plans. This position will require travel to our various agencies.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of post-graduate professional experience in operations, sales, marketing or related role (insurance experience in a corporate strategy environment preferable). In the absence of a graduate degree, a minimum of 15 years of significant industry sales and marketing experience is required.
The Director will play a central role in ensuring the company’s long-term success. He or she will be charged with developing a robust sales and marketing platform to assess and advocate any number of business issue scenarios as it relates to the operations of existing agencies, or potential acquisitions. The Director will help drive refinement/expansion of existing internal growth strategies and be a high value/high impact professional whose opinion and insights will be immediately sought.
This mandate is broad and will encompass a full range of strategic considerations. The Director will assist in developing performance metrics and competency measures that, in turn, will help drive fast, accurate decisions. The Director’s task will be to ensure that any sales or marketing initiative or target is actionable and will bring both value and clear top line revenue growth.
The Director should have substantial experience in the sales and marketing arena within the insurance industry coupled with clear opinions and keen insights into the business. Alternatively, the Director may be an established investor known for their business acumen and strategic thinking skills. He or she will be a thought leader to the organization and have the ability to take a point of view, build consensus and not shy away from productive debate. The Director will be naturally inquisitive, bring a great deal of passion to business issues, and be known for his or her collaboration and team building.
Primary Director Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement internal growth plans
- Manage and disseminate marketing intelligence
- Develop and communicate production strategies and sales goals
- Develop and implement client retention procedures, including the management of client satisfaction surveys
- Gather and disseminate product expertise to all agency locations
- Review contingency agreements
- Work with CEO and agency operational managers to improve carrier relationships
- Operate as a conduit for resource needs of production staff
Director Qualifications and Experience:
- Recent and meaningful sales and marketing achievements where the individual held true responsibility and results for the program implementations achieved
- Experience within the insurance sector
- Strong communication skills with the demonstrated ability to present, gain acceptance, and obtain buy-in from the most senior levels within the organization
- Works well with the senior leadership team to develop sales and marketing strategies and identify tactical steps that advance those strategies
- Able to understand the details and drivers behind insurance brokerage
- Understands long-term vision and how to identify short-term tactics that are consistent with the objectives of the business
- Capable of performing ongoing production analysis for key business units
- Presents well at the executive level
- Excellent at understanding and communicating key decision points and options to senior management
- Exceptional intellect and business judgment
- Advanced analytical skills
